Favourite Photos #2: Anzac Day - Lest We Forget

The Lone Pine – Gallipoli, Turkey.

I was extremely humbled to go to Gallipoli last year, and see where the ANZAC Corps landed in Turkey on April 25, 1915 to fight what was a near impossible fight. The enormity of the situation really hit me during my visit here, the men and women who fought for us really are our heroes. The view that would have greeted the diggers when they landed at Anzac Cove was one of massive cliffs and rocky outcrops, filled with hidden Turks waiting to pounce with gunfire. They just about walked, unwittingly, to their deaths on that day. The many Beach cemeteries located in and around Anzac Cove were also extremely sad to see, but at the same time made me more proud to be Australian. Their spirit lives on and for all their sacrifice, bravery and camaraderie, we thank you!

“At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them. Lest We Forget.”
